Christmas Activities

The Christmas season is about family and by getting the family involved in various activities, you will enjoy it all the more.

Decorating the home for Christmas is usually the focal point of the season. Trimming the tree is an activity the whole family can participate in. You can limit it to your immediate family or invite extended family members to participate. Have them to bring a special ornament for the tree. If you are having extended family members at your home for Christmas dinner, this is an additional way to get everyone geared up for the big day.

You need to decide if you are going to have an artificial tree or a live one. If your tree will be live and there is a place near you where you can cut down your own tree, this will be a fun activity for the family. Depending on how far you have to drive, you can make a day of it. You can stop for lunch. While riding along, you can sing Christmas carols or play car games with the children. When you get to the Christmas tree farm, you walk around to find the best tree. Each person will, of course, have their own opinion. You can narrow down the choices and then take a vote. Cut down your tree.

Christmas ActivitiesBake cookies with your children. Most children like to bake cookies or keep you company in the kitchen while you are baking them. You can also bake other items such as fudge or make gingerbread houses or make gingerbread cookies and decorate them.

Another activity is taking time out to sing Christmas carols or to watch Christmas movies. There are a number of traditional Christmas movies as well as contemporary ones that the whole family will enjoy.

You can also visit places in your community where are beautiful decorations. In many communities, homes on certain streets are decorated and people drive by to see the decorations.

Were there special activities you did with your family when you were growing up? You may want to start these traditions with your own family.
